Pathetic,…I’m simply pathetic. My internet went out last night and it was the end of my world! I honestly didn’t know what to do with myself without constantly being able to check the box scores. I was contemplating going for a jog to pass the time, but it was dark and I had a beer in my hand and in all fairness the beer came first, so I had to check all of last night’s scores this morning. I hope you folks appreciate the kind of dedication I have toward ensuring your success in your fantasy leagues. I got my ass up at the crack of 11:30 to check those stats. Now I know how farmers must feel. Python 167, thanks for waiting for this. Craig Hamilton…yours is next.

This is a head to head league with 9 stat categories... the winner of the stat category at the end of the week gets the win in that category... so nine wins per week. Here are the stats: FG%, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, REB, AST, ST, BLK, TO
(So I’m assuming that this is a Yahoo Public League h2h? Because that’s exactly how it plays out…in which case there must be 12 teams in the league…correct?)
The Assessment
Python managed to grab a pretty good balance. He does have some weaknesses and, in my opinion, he has some players he’s putting a lot of stock in right now who will probably cool down a bit later. But, this isn’t a bad looking team by any means.
POINTS – With Jermaine O’Neal hurt, Boozer bound to cool down at some point, and not much else for scoring, you really, really need Kobe to get healthy soon. QRich has provided some help of late, but though this isn’t a weakness, I can’t see you at the head of the league. That’s OK and I wouldn’t panic over it, but you could really use a healthy Kobe in your lineup.
REBOUNDS – You might think I’m nuts, but I would seriously suggest shopping Carlos Boozer…right now. He’s red hot and a lot of people are drooling over him at the moment (which might eventually make him miss quite a bit of shots as I hear the new ball doesn’t fair well to fan drool). But, if you look at his career numbers, he hasn’t had a healthy season in three years and has a career average of only 0.8 bspg and 0.6 spg. What’s more, his free throw % is typically under the league average. So you’re basically looking at a guy who gets decent points with good %, good solid boards and absolutely nothing else. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a nice fantasy contributor, but I’d suggest at least shopping him around and seeing if you can reel in the big fish with him. If you don’t get any good offers, stick with him. Between him, Jermaine O’Neal (once he becomes healthy again), Chris Kaman, Warrick (for as long as he collects some boards), and Kidd and Bryant helping from the guard spot, you’re looking very, very good in boards.
ASSISTS – Kidd’s adjusting to a couple less minutes per game, but he’ll still give you a solid leader in assists. Nelson is struggling early, but he should eventually come around. Arroyo is more of a scorer than a true point guard and he can be streaky. Kobe will help some in assists once he’s healthy, but you can’t – as I’m sure you know – rely on Payton for a whole lot this season even though he’s the temporary starter. I’m still confident that Kidd will have a typical Kidd season. That alone should ensure an OK finish in assist at least. You could use another assist-man to…well, assist in assists. However, I wouldn’t call this a weakness.
STEALS – Kidd’s steals are down, along with most of his other numbers. What’s that mean? Don’t panic with him. I realize that everyone says his minutes will continue to decrease as Marcus Williams develops, but so far he’s only averaging one minutes less per game than last year, so it’s not the minutes. Between him and Kobe, you’re looking pretty good in steals, and guys like Battier and Nelson will chip some in here and there to help.
THREES – Here’s a stat you’re kind of hurting in. Kidd will pick up a fair number of threes. With Kobe, you never really know what kind of Kobe you’ll get. He’s only averaging 0.4 threes per game so far this season. Last year, he averaged about 2.3. The previous year, he averaged 2.0. The year prior, he only averaged 1.1. Quentin Richardson was a nice pick up. He should help, but you could still use another gunner or two.
BLOCKS – Another stat you might be hurting in. Jermaine O’Neal has been a blocking fiend so far, but with him out, you’re really hurting for blocks. Contrary to popular belief, Boozer, Kaman and Warrick are not shot blockers.
FG% and FT% - Solid all around. I don’t see anyone who could really kill you in either FG or FT%.
TOs – Nothing to worry about here. Kidd has been turning it over a lot early, but typically keeps his turnovers low. Kobe has a history of being turnover prone, but you should be fine in turnovers.
Conclusion
You’ve got a couple holes, which could keep you out of first if you’re not careful. Also, I have a sneaking suspicion that Boozer will cool off. Personally, I think Boozer and O’Neal are a bit overrated, but they are good players if they can stay on the court. Payton and Walker have put together a few solid games, but be careful with them. Walker’s in consistent and Payton won’t put up numbers as soon as Wade starts playing like Wade’s capable of playing.
Not a bad team at all, though. Personally, I’d recommend trading one of your bigs…either Boozer in a package to try to reel in a bigger fish, or perhaps Kaman…and get another legit shot blocker or another point guard who gets three pointers and assists if possible.
Just some things to chew on.
Now who will sex Dikembe?

Max-- Shot Blockers, Gunners
Would Dwight Howard be a good guy to trade for? And I picked up Andres Biedrins as he's looked pretty solid in shot blocking... and as far as 3 point shooters go... who should i try to trade for or pick up?
Re: Shot Blockers, Gunners
First off, take what I say with a grain of salt. That's just my take on Boozer. There are many people who are very high on him and wouldn't trade him for the world. If you think he's worth keeping then by all means you should keep him. If it were my team, though, I'd shop him around...not in desperation, mind you, but just to see what I might be able to get back for him.
Dwight Howard could be a good pick up, provided he keeps his blocks up like he has. His FT% will hurt you and he's turning the ball over more than you'd expect from a big, but I do think he has a bigger upside than Boozer.
I'd actually recommend going after a guy like Chris Bosh first. He gets you numbers somewhat similar to Boozer's and Howard's, but he has a more reliable history in terms of health and production(though he did run into some DNPs last season) and if he can get his blocks up he could really move up in fantasy value.
Again, that's just kind of a bias opinion. You could argue in favor of keeping Boozer all day long and you wouldn't be wrong. So, do what's in your gut in this case.
Nice pick up with Biedrins.
As for gunners to pick up...Rafer Alston, JR Smith...if you're in a Yahoo league, the best thing to do is go to the waiver wire and sort by three pointers "by season average." Then go through the list of available gunners and see if any seem appealing.
This Trade
I got offered this trade and I dunno if I can afford to do it. Thanks for getting back so quick by the way.
Jason Kidd and Carlos Boozer for Rashard Lewis and Andre Miller
Now I know Rashard is the gunner of all gunners but can I afford it in terms of boards, assists? I'm very confused as to what to do, I'm thinking no but I'm also thinking yes.
Re: This Trade
Yeah, that might be a tough call. I wouldn't pull the trigger though, but some people think I put too much stock in Kidd's fantasy value this season. For starters, Boozer's stock is through the roof. It might not be a good idea to shop him, but you might be able to pull in a bigger fish. Lewis is very reliable, but Andre Miller isn't necessarily, even though he's doing very well in assists. His steals are likely to go down.
Kidd's the real key here I think. In my mind, he'll finish top ten or close in a standard 9 stat cat league. I wouldn't blame you for pulling the trigger, but if it were my team I wouldn't unless i was desperate for threes over boards. The other thing to remember though is that not only do you lose out on Boozer's boards, but you lose Kidd's boards too. About 7.5 a game last season is GREAT from a point guard.
I wouldn't...
Personally, I wouldn't make that trade. I'm not on the Boozer bandwagon, and even though Rashard Lewis may not keep up his torrid pace, he's solid. Andre Miller's assists are thriving in Denver's new offense, and he'll contribute in a few other STAT CAT's, too (so far, steals and FT% are lookin' good).
Kidd is a stud, but I'm waiting for Boozer to get hurt. To me, Lewis and Miller is the more reliable duo. But then again, I'm not a genius when it comes to this stuff, so I'd listen a lot more carefully to guys like Philthy, Guru Max, and other guys who've been around fantasy ball longer than me. Just thought I'd chime in.
"experts"
You probably know more than you think. You think like an expert anyway...so if you don't have the fantasy bball experience yet, you will. A lot of it is just considering all sides of a scenerio.
uh.......
im the one who has kidd and boozer
Sorry.
See, I told you guys I'm dumb :P.
BIG TRADE HELP !!!
I just got offered this deal that seems to be good, I don't know if I can afford the assists that Kidd gets but we'll see....
Jason Kidd and Carlos Boozer for Dwight Howard and Kevin Martin
I have Kidd and Boozer.... is this good for me?
don't think you should take it
although i'm not that high on boozer.. i love j.kidd and he is actually getting better averages then last year.. dwight howard isn't having the breakout year that most people predicted.. but still has been pretty solid.. i'd still take him over boozer, but you could make an argument that boozer is better.. however no way is kevin martin even close to kidd's value.. i know he's having a terrific year and probably at the top of the list for Most Improved Player.. but his only major cats are pts, percentages and 3s.. while kidd chips in in almost all the rare cats like 3s,stls,ast while giving you 8-9 rebounds and high ft%(though low volume).
yea
I dunno. DHoward is tight but Kevin Martin is not as good as Kidd. I say don' do it.
re: BIG TRADE HELP !!!
That's a tough one. I wouldn't do it, but that might partly be based on my bias against DHoward. Sure, his boards are exceptional, but his FT% hurts you so much and he typically turns the ball over. That, and I'd like to see more blocks out of him.
Granted, Boozer can be injury prone, but right now he's playing better than Howard. Kevin Martin's playing like an All Star, but I'd rather have a proven veteran who finished top 10 last season in Kidd. Everyone's under-valuing Kidd in my opinion. I'd keep Boozer and Kidd personally.
Help! Too many guards!
I drafted my team without any category-dominance strategy and ended up with lots of versatile players that aren't great in any one area. My big guys were either soft or not producing so I dumped them all and grabbed players that are producing regardless of position. I can get those big men from the waiver wire again if necessary, but I'm hoping to package a few guys together and get some stars in return. Should I try to get big guys to help rebounds and blocks or passing big guys like Bogut to complement Diaw? Trade Diaw?
One good thing I have going for me is that I am great on the waiver wire so I usually grab recently hot players before anyone else (Outlaw, Pavlovic, & Wright).

WW Rebounders: Lawrence Roberts, Reggie Evans, Elson, Varejao

Ouch
That's a thin wire.
Advice
Hey wshuford,
I know Max will get to your team. He has one or two more ahead of you, though, so in the meantime I thought I'd comment. You certainly are thin up front, but don't give up on some of those guys. Remember, when looking to make a trade, it's best to buy low and sell high. There's no point in trading Diaw right now because his stock is so low that you won't get much at all for him. Don't drop him yet, though. We're only 6-7 games into the season. Give him a chance. Barbosa is eating up a lot of his minutes because he's hot and because Raja Bell isn't 100% healthy. Also, if Amare ever goes down, Diaw will be a VERY covetable player.
Who did you trade for Milicic and Pietrus?
The first guy I'd consider trading is Ben Gordon. He's overrated and you could probably get a quality big guy for him right now. Another trick is to look for big men who are struggling right now, like Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Chris Kaman and try to pry them away from teams for cheaper than they're worth.
Hope that helps a little.
Bastard!!!
Philthy...you're getting all the good points in before I get a chance to! You're gonna make me feel like a blubbering idiot whilst SOBER!
*grumbles*
wshuford, you're next. Don't listen to a word Philthy says here, even though it's pretty much on the money lol.
No, it is really good advice. I'll go more in-depth with an assessment.
Thanks so far...
Those are good reasons for holding onto Diaw, his stock is pretty low right now. BTW Philthy, I traded Krstic and Warrick for Milicic and Pietrus.
Here's a minor WW update and a quick question:
Richard Jefferson is on the waiver wire! I think I can get him using my 5th waiver slot.
I also think I should drop one of my many guards and pick up... yet another guard, John Salmons - Sacramento plays three games this week but NONE on Friday or Saturday, this week's popular days. If I keep my current guards, two of them will be sitting on both FRI and SAT due to position overload, basically giving them only a one game week for my team.
Which two guards get voted off the island?
Payton, because White Chocolate's coming back soon?
Wright, because Nachbar might steal stats and RJ isn't as hurt as originally thought?
West, only five total games in the following two weeks? But then a five game week right after :/
Gordon, because he's the 2006 version of John Starks and I hear Duhon's about to start soon?
Devin Harris?
Obviously Arenas, Ginobili, and Pietrus are getting dropped... and Pavlov's my dog (LOL).
WW/Trade Updates:
Two New WW Centers: Kurt Thomas and P.J. Brown
Fingers Crossed: RICHARD JEFFERSON!
Trade Offer: Odom and Ginobili for Charlie V. and David Lee
Thanks for all the help, you guys are great.
RE: More Team Help
Why drop Pietrus? I'd drop a couple point guards over him. I wouldn't have done that Krstic/Warrick for Milicic/Pietrus deal in the first place.
That's a tough call on who to drop. I forget how deep your league is. Aren't there better players on your waiver wire?
Honestly, it comes down to a guessing game with that list, though I would definitely hold onto Ben Gordon. He's struggling right now, but he's incredibly streaky and could go off at anytime (at least in points). When he does, if you still don't want him, you could probably include him in a trade to sweeten it. Ben Gordon always starts off the season as a starter...struggles...and then moves to the bench. He does better off the bench because frankly he's not that good, but he can get hot. Wait on him.
I guess I would drop Wright and West. Boston has more guards to share minutes with West and Wright isn't much more than a shooter anyway. Payton's getting minutes, even though he isn't wowing anyone with his stats and Harris, though losing minutes to Anthony Johnson, has more of an upside I think.
None of those players will make or break your team, though.
Why on EARTH would you drop Arenas and Ginobili??? Is this a pick em league or something? In Yahoo, I don't even think you can drop Arenas.
The Odom/Ginobili for Charlie V/Lee trade is a rip off for the side who gives up Odom. I don't care how well Charlie's playing.
Hope that helps. Tell your friends about us so we can boost the community to get a bigger and better resource pool. It will only help everyone.
FORGOT ONE WORD!!!
Obviously Arenas, Ginobili, and Pietrus are NOT getting dropped... and Pavlovic's my dog (LOL). My team might suck, but I'm no fool.
I told a few friends in our league to check out the site too. Thanks again.
:)
I was wondering about that.
Jermaine O'Neal
I realize now that O'Neal's back, but he's still an injury risk and I don't think he's playing at 100%. Still, if he can continue blocking shots like he has, you might be able to get by there.
